Bilingual Futures was started as a Research organization at the University of Washington with the primary purpose of exploring equitable and necessary changes to the current bilingual elementary model operated by Seattle Public Schools. We aim to help the district implement an immersive model for maximized learning beyond just language acquisition, as we believe bilingual education offers a community that fosters cultural wealth and understanding. We currently operate with a three student group and are working closely with UW College of Education faculty to progress as a research project and gain partnerships and recognition. On top of this we seek partnerships with curriculum developers with a commitment to the Seattle community. At our current standing, we await crucial meetings with University of Washington faculty to be officially recognized as a College of Education research project. We are working to collect important statistics and information that will shape our decisions and approaches as an organization. We collect statistics from districts and schools operating on the immersive models we hope to see at SPS, showcasing student growth, community strength, and the well-rounded education experience.
