Bilingual Futures would like to recognize and congratulate our Co-Founder, Alejandro Salas, who was awarded the UW Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity's (OMA&D) Cesar Cauce Scholarship!
Former UW President Ana Mari Cauce established the Cesar Cauce Memorial Scholarship in tribute to her late brother Cesar, a social and civil rights activist, to support students engaged in activism and community work who are pursuing their undergraduate degrees at UW.
This honor highlights Alejandro's determination and intention as well as his hard work and contributions to the community as a whole. "This recognition reflects a journey that started long before college, one shaped by my experiences as a former multilingual learner from rural Eastern Washington. Today, through my work in the College of Education and with Bilingual Futures, I’ve been committed to expanding access, advocacy, and support for multilingual and immigrant students"- Alejandro.
Additionally, Alejandro shared the following when reflecting on his work that led to the honor: "Everything I do is grounded in the belief that students like me deserve stronger systems, better resources, and more opportunities than we were often given. I’m grateful to be in spaces where I can turn that belief into action. And even more grateful to be slowly but surely becoming everything my younger self once hoped for."
We are proud of Alejandro and grateful for him being a valuable member of our team.
