"My name is Susana, and I’m a second year Education Studies: Multilingual Education and Spanish double major at University of Washington. I’m from South Carolina, but I studied in the International Baccalaureate Spanish Immersion Program in elementary school and continued prioritizing bilingualism in English and Spanish as my native languages at home. I want to use the knowledge I’ve gained from my connections and experiences to emphasize the value of dual language immersion programs for students of all age levels in our diverse learning communities. Although the focus of my studies is in bilingual education, I am deeply passionate about working with students from all around the world, each bringing their own unique cultural wealth and knowledge to the classroom. Through the work study tutoring program at the UW Community Engagement and Leadership Education, I have had the opportunity to work with a multicultural and multilingual population of students at Lowell Elementary and Seattle World School. Connecting with other educators and leaders in these communities is how I best feel I can contribute to our cause."
